Weekly Update

This week was filled with holiday projects and excitement. We enjoyed a special advent chapel led by the 7th graders on Wednesday. Today our day began with a Lower School Christmas celebration. We heard music from the band, a Christmas story read by Mrs. Friend, and a visit from Santa. The last bit of graded work for 2023 came home today. You'll find last week's Wordly Wise quiz and fact contracts along with some math puzzles/challenges.

These girls are rocking two digit by two digit multiplication and the girls were challenged to find computational errors in "The Case of the Missing Marshmallow" activity.

We finished Reign, Rain this week. This book sparked deep, meaningful conversations as a class. Throughout the book, we've talked about the author's purpose and theme. The main character, Rose, displayed bravery in a way that we don't normally see. Hopefully your daughter's have come home excited to tell you about this novel.

Wrap-up

Our field trip to the capitol was extra memorable this year. The girls had the chance to meet the current Secretary of Education, Aimee Guidera. After we toured the State Capitol, we traveled to the Patrick Henry building. There we heard a little bit about her responsibilities as part of the Governor's Cabinet. Ask your daughter's to tell you about the room where we met her and who else meets in there!

In math this week, we conquered 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication. It's coming along and I'm proud of the girls' perseverance. Prime numbers, factor, and product are math vocabulary words we used often this week.

We learned about abstract vs. concrete nouns this week. Check out a quick project the girls worked hard to put together using abstract nouns. Click on your daughter's name to see!

Weekly Wrap-Up

Our big sisters visited on Wednesday and together we got in the Christmas spirit! We also had an end of the week surprise. During club time today, we put together garland and ornaments. On Monday we will take them outside to decorate the trees surrounding the playground as a gift to the Lower School. Check out pictures here!

Our latest novel study, Rain, Reign by Ann M. Martin, has us talking all about homophones! For spelling over the next few weeks, our focus will be on homophones and correctly applying them in writing.
