Weekly Update

I know the girls are counting down the days until Thanksgiving Break. I'm so proud of them for really buckling down these past two weeks despite the excitement. We've accomplished so much!

We finished our first historical fiction, Ranger in Time. Throughout the second half of the book, we focused on making inferences about the time period. This book was a great introduction to learning about the westward expansion. Ask your daughter to tell you a few things she recorded in her journal! Solving different word analogies has been our brain warm up at the start of reading time too!

This week's writing lab was extra fun. Check out the details and your daughter's work below!

This week the girls have been solving harder and more complex word problems. Many are able to solve two-step problems on their own and they all conquered a more challenging week of math homework. Word problems are woven throughout our next unit in math. We will begin Unit 3 after Thanksgiving. Multiplication, division, factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers are all covered in unit 3.

Despite a rainy start to Halloween, we ended the day rotating through each of the fourthie classrooms completing fun activities. Halloween on a Tuesday brought some major excitement this week. Thank you to Kristen Walsh and Liz Kelley for the Halloween snacks!
Dia de los Muertos celebrations in Spanish this week!

In reading we began a new book called Ranger in Time: Rescue on the Oregon Trail. This book lends itself well as we move into the time period of the Westward Expansion. This week we will review the Revolutionary War in preparation for our next unit in social studies.

The girls took their Unit 1 math assessments last Thursday and rocked it. Graded assessments will come home this Friday in their folders. We will move quickly through adding and subtracting BIG numbers this week as well as one and two-step word problems.
